Coastal Rowing Geelong

Location:         Corio Bay, Geelong

About:

  • Coastal Rowing Geelong (CRG) is all about promoting the social, health and well-being benefits of coastal community rowing and we are keen for anyone to come along and get involved. We plan to grow the club in 2025 across the Greater Geelong community, with a particular focus on encouraging participation from our Cultural and Linguistically Diverse communities.

As a new club, we are an expanding group who enjoy rowing all year round out on Corio Bay Geelong. Corio Bay is tucked away in the southwest corner of Port Phillip Bay Victoria. Also, we expect to have suitable Barwon River access organised shortly, as a substitute for days we can’t get out on the Bay.

In addition to our regular rowing schedule, we aim to facilitate opportunities for members to participate in both regional, state and national community rowing events. For example, we are hosting a multiday row down the Glenelg River, in south-west Victoria in March 2025. Victorian and Tasmanian clubs will be joining us on this little adventure. For now, though, most of our crew are happy enough just to get out and about on the beautiful Corio Bay, enjoying the sights and sounds, pulling up on a beach for a coffee break, rowing hard or hardly at all….. what ever the crew/s want/s to do!

    Our St Ayles Skiff

Our three skiffs were built in Geelong by local community groups – newly-emigrated Syriac community, Geelong’s resident Persian community, Lifeboat Geelong Foundation volunteers and Deakin University International Students. Construction started in 2018, instigated by Peter Doyle, in association with the Royal Geelong Yacht Club (RGYC) and Diversitat, and assisted by a handful of like-minded boaties who shared their knowledge with the building volunteers.

After a lull, ownership of the three St Ayles skiffs was officially transferred from RGYC to our newly incorporated club, Coastal Rowing Geelong, in October 2024, to ensure their continued access for use here in the Greater Geelong area.
